Description

Sommerville: Oriental Chalcedony, tinged with Sapphire hue. Meleager, wild-boar hunting in the wilds of Calydon. Interesting antique cameo. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case O.

Vermeule: Meleager hunting the wild boar in the wilds of Cayldon. "Interesting antique cameo" says Sommerville. Design copied either from an ancient sarcophagus relief or from a 16th century or later marble copying one of these ancient panels. 1700-1799 Post Classical.
