Description

Ionochoe, incised curves, decorations of red and brown on buff. Light cream clay fired to slightly reddish color: fine texture. Shape: short bevelled foot with flat bottom. Drop ovoid body. Narrow ledge base of neck. Thin neck flaring to perpendicular lip. Rim wide and flaring. Protruding knobs either side of handle. Single strap handle mid-shoulder. Decoration: Design paint brown with red and white paint added. Foor brown. Reserved zone at base decorated with 3 groups rounded vertical stripes (all 3 groups of 8 stripes) - groups placed at intervals around base. Main decorative zone on belly with wide brown band with superimposed red and white stripes. A red band flanked by narrower white bands on lower central and upper portion of frieze dividing into 2 zones. Shoulder reserved except for area 0.03m wide painted brown either side of handle. 3 groups rounded brown vertical stripes decorate shoulder frieze (2 groups of 7, 1 group of 8 stripes). Drip ledge, neck, lip brown. Rim brown 0.022m into interior. Handle brown, incision to outline decorative motif upper and lower belly freizes. Concentric bands of overlapping semicircles drawn in double outline with aid of compass. White dots interspresed in circles. Intact.
