Description | Flat bottom with a hole in the center, flared sides decorated with brown and beige design and a different grass decorating the rim. Ranging from medium to dark brown in color and flared with abstract patterns of brown and beige, baskets such as these had many different purposes. This basket, probably from Western Africa, has a small hole in the bottom and was most likely used in the production of rice to remove the husk. The coils that compose the basket are made of reed or grass that is wrapped in strips of another grass. Round woven basket, tan and black design, hole in bottom. Condition of top rattan design poor.
