Description

UE III: double axe motive worked into the same rich pattern. It is perhaps derived from the net (cf. No. 44). A scene of offering occupies the lower register. A lady, remarkable for her long hair and fringed shawl, sits on an elegant stool which has curved legs in the shape of bull's feet. She drinks out of a tumbler. A nude servant brings some presents.A large fish may be a symbol of the catch, if not an emblem of the lady herself (Nina). A woman squatting (or seated?) plays on a three-stringed lyre. Lozenge-shaped leaves fill the background. The graceful scene is a forerunner of Shub-ad's symposium. Five fragments, one of which has a second seal-impression, No. 135. Clay sealing. Baked and shellacked post-excavation. Fragment with curvilinear diaper pattern and pear-shaped filling ornament. Joined to 33-35-308.
