University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology

Middle East Galleries Opening April 21 On April 21, the Penn Museum will open our first new signature gallery in more than a decade. The new Middle East Galleries will take you on a journey to the world’s first cities, starting with a single footprint left in clay by a worker at Ur, Iraq, 6,500 years ago. See some of the Museum’s most iconic objects—like the Ram in the Thicket, the bull-headed lyre, and the burial attire of Queen Puabi of Ur—in their stunning new home. Join us for the Opening Festival, included with general admission, on April 21 and 22. Signature Galleries Take in the fascinating story of humanity through an extraordinary collection of art and artifacts from all over the world. Our signature galleries celebrate the incredible and diverse accomplishments of people, and many of the objects on display come directly from our own archaeological excavations and anthropological expeditions. From stone tools and household items to architectural monuments and fine art — you’ll discover something new about the amazing lives of people spanning the entire history of humankind.
