Saturday, February 24, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM PHILADELPHIA, PA 2018—Traditional African music and dance, an African Jazz Connection workshop, dance and drumming workshops, puppetry, storytelling, an African marketplace, art-making, games, gallery tours, film, even African animal yoga for children—it all comes alive at the Penn Museum’s 29th annual Celebration of African Cultures on Saturday, February 24, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The celebration, presented in the Museum’s Africa galleries and around the Museum, is free with Museum admission.


New this year: Junior Anthropologists Summer Camp for Children Entering 1st Grade Philadelphia, PA, February 1, 2018—Online enrollment opens today for the Penn Museum’s popular summer day camp,Anthropologists in the Making, celebrating 20 years in 2018! This unique summer camp offers children entering grades 2 through 8 an engaging experience that ventures through time and across continents, tapping in to the Penn Museum’s internationally-renowned collections and anthropology research. New this year, the Junior Anthropologists camp caters specifically to young children who will be entering 1st grade in the fall.

They are fiercely loyal to those they love. from The Chinese Zodiac PHILADELPHIA, PA 2018–Get ready to call in the Year of the Dog at the Penn Museum’s 37th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Saturday, January 27, 2018, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The family-friendly day features traditional Chinese music and dance, contemporary Asian film, tangram workshops, tai chi and kung fu martial arts demonstrations, storytelling, calligraphy, family crafts, a Year of the Dog Photo Contest, and much more—closing with the grand finale drums and the roar of the lion dance and parade. Activities are held in the Museum’s Rotunda, which houses one of the finest collections of monumental Chinese art in the country, and throughout the international galleries of the Museum.


Sunday, January 14, 2:00 pm at the Penn Museum Philadelphia, 2018 – Celebrated avant-garde trumpeter/composer Peter Evans and three members of his band join up with the Relâche New Music Ensemble, in residence at the Penn Museum, for Not So Quiet City, on Sunday, January 14 at 2:00 pm.

FREE FAMILY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION RETURNS TO THE PENN MUSEUM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3, 11:00 AM TO 4:00 PM PHILADELPHIA. PA 2017 — Smile and get into the holiday spirit—international-style—at the Penn Museum! Gather family and friends and head to the free 22nd annual Celebrations around the World holiday celebration Sunday, December 3, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Guests receive Museum “passports” with “itineraries” to visit various countries and discover festive holiday traditions such as Diwali, the Dragon-Boat Festival, Eid-al-Fitr, Ramadan and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Drum workshops, craft-making, Indian dance, sari wrapping, rangoli, Arabic writing and Islamic culture, storytelling, and live musical performances—plus elegant face painting and joyful balloon art—are all part of the festive day, held throughout the Museum's galleries.


Saturday October 28, 11 am to 4 pm Centerpiece Altar Remembers Recent Hurricane and Earthquake Victims in Mexico, the United States and the Caribbean PHILADELPHIA, PA Fall 2017—The Penn Museum, joining with the Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia and the Mexican Cultural Center, presents the sixth annual Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead Celebration Saturday, October 28, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, throughout the galleries of the international museum of art, archaeology and world cultures. Music and dance, pageantry and puppetry, paper maché artistry, sugar skull and paper flower making, face painting, a Mexico and Central America gallery tour, and special celebration foods are all part of the festive day.
