The Penn Museum invites everyone to celebrate February with meaningful moments and globally inspired keepsakes. Here are five ideas to make history lovers of all ages swoon, as well as spark a new love for world adventure:

  1. For Kids & Families: Stay Up Late with the Sphinx
Being awake past bedtime takes on an entirely new dimension when kids ages 6-12 embark on an unforgettable adventure during Up Late with the Sphinx. Scheduled for Saturday, February 25 or Friday, March 31 from 5:00-10:00 PM, Up Late offers an evening filled with games, hands-on workshops, and gallery activities, including a flashlight-led expedition through the museum. Cost: $30 per person. For more information, click here.
  2. Taste History with Ancient Alcohol
A partnership between archaeologists and Camuna Cellars, the “Ancient Alcohol Tour & Wine Tasting: Eastern Mediterranean Wine Mashup” blends an interactive, after-hours Penn Museum tour with a wine tasting on Wednesday, March 22, or Wednesday March 29 at 6:00 pm. Celebrating a cosmopolitan hub of diverse cultures where innovations were born, the new Eastern Mediterranean Gallery marks the start of an entirely new spirited journey of drinking one’s way through ancient history. Cost: $50 per person. To register, click here.
  3. Artisanal gifts from around the world
The Penn Museum Shop offers a vast range of gift options for any person you love—even plushies, puzzles, excavation kits, and more to spark the imaginations of future archaeologists. Also available are sparkling earrings inspired by the ancient Romans, silk scarves hand-woven in India, and directtrade chocolates made with cacao from Mexico--and that’s just a sample. Shop online here.
  4. Intellectual Indulgence—The Deep Dig: King Tut’s Tomb & Treasures
Following the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, this weekly adult class traces the footsteps of archaeologists who began searching for Tutankhamun as early as 1917. The online course takes place Thursday evenings in February from 6:30-8:00 PM. Cost: $175 for a total of four courses. Register here

For less of a commitment, start with a conversation:
UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites are the center of this year’s Great Lecture Series. Explore the Penn Museum after the lecture and finish up with a late dinner at a nearby University City restaurant. The remainder of the on-site lectures include Teotihuacan: Rome of the Ancient Americas, North American Mounds, Lagash and its Neighbors, and Saving the Monuments of Lower Nubia. Cost: $15. The Museum is open until 8:00 pm the first Wednesday of each month. Register here.
  5. Get Passionate About Ancient History with a Membership
Starting at $65 for individuals, $90 for couples, or $110 for an entire household, a Penn Museum Membership provides unlimited general admission for one year, access to previews and exclusive events, while simultaneously supporting a 135year-old historic gem in the City of Philadelphia.
