Archaeology and Anthropology Workshops

Take deeper dive into Archaeology and Anthropology by joining scholars as they share their experiences working directly in the field, lab, and library. Experts share their insights through compelling visuals, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions.

Topics include: Anthropology, Archaeological Methods and Field Experience, Biological and Forensic Anthropology, Classical Archaeology, Egyptology and Penn Museum excavations in the Middle East.

Exclusive Archival Access

Explore the Penn Museum's historic Archives, housed in the charming nineteenth century former library of the museum! The records within this intriguing space tell the story of where and how we obtained the objects in the Penn Museum, right from the words of working archaeologists! Take a trip through these rich stories with Museum Senior Archivist Alex Pezzati as you investigate the many unusual tales from this vast collection. Your group will receive exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the majestic Archives as he unveils the stories of Penn’s very own explorers, which include expedition records, vintage photographs, fine drawings, manuscripts, personal letters, and much more.

"Making" Workshops

The Penn Museum is serving up a series of workshops for people who like to learn by doing. In the “Making” workshops your group will step into the past by studying ancient objects from the Museum’s international collections while crafting and/or using modern replicas of your own. Penn faculty experts and local artisans lead these engaging sessions and answer your questions.

The Collections Study Room

The Collections Study Room serves as a laboratory where college students can examine and discuss Museum artifacts from our storerooms firsthand. Professors are encouraged to lead their students to observe, interpret, synthesize, analyze and organize our material culture in this space. The room can accommodate groups of up to 20 students and includes 5 state-of-the-art storage cabinets, a photography station, and an interactive SMART Board, along with Academic Engagement staff to help you facilitate your experience.

World Culture Workshops

What better way to learn about a country’s culture than directly from a person who lived there? The Penn Museum offers your group a series of talks that provide deeper insight into various traditional and modern cultures from the speaker’s native country. These diverse workshops cover countries and cultures from the following:

Virtual Programs

Are you unable to visit the Museum? Not to worry, our Virtual Workshops make it possible to experience the Penn Museum without leaving your building! Through the use of video conferencing technologies, a museum staff or faculty member beams into your space to provide an interactive talk in real-time! This technology provides you with a unique opportunity to introduce, conclude, or supplement a visit to the Penn Museum!
