Description

Wooden figurine colored black except eyeballs. Traces of red on upper lip. Hands held against back of head.

The type of features illustrates the radial admixture present among the Baule, due to incursions, beginning 150 years ago, of AGNI and ASHANTI from the east, who now form the domiant element of the BAULE. The original in habitants, GURO, and related groups, are characterized by coarser features like their MANDINGAB relations further north.

Height 74.5 cm
