Gallery Closures and Alerts

The Museum and its galleries may occasionally be closed to visitors due to exhibition updates and maintenance, private events, holiday closures, and other non-regular events. In addition, the Museum is in the process of temporarily closing and renovating select Signature Galleries over the next few years to provide a better visitor experience.

Please note these upcoming alerts to help plan your next visit:

  • Wednesday, October 26: Lower Egypt closed from 11:30-5:00pm
  • Friday, October 28: Lower Egypt closed from 3:30-5:00pm
  • Thursday, December 15th: Chinese Rotunda and Upper Egypt closed from 12:00-3:00 pm
  • Friday, December 16th: Lower Egypt closed from 2:00-5:00 pm
  • The Penn Museum will be closed from December 31, 2016 - January 2, 2017
  • Iraq’s Ancient Past will permanently close after December 30, 2016. A new exhibition focusing on the destruction of our shared cultural heritage in Syria and Iraq will open to the public on April 15, 2017.
  • In the Artifact Lab will temporarily close after December 30, 2016. It will reopen to the public on April 8, 2017.

Museum Entrances

The Daniel G. Kamin Entrance

The Daniel G. Kamin Entrance is located across the street from Franklin Field on South Street, closest to 33rd Street.

This entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Group Entrance (Kress)

The Group Entrance (Kress) is for buses, groups, and the general public. It is on South Street, closest to Convention Avenue.

This entrance is wheelchair accessible.

The Trescher Entrance (and Stoner Courtyard)

The Trescher Entrance is on South Street, but is only open for special occasions.

30th Street Station services all regional rail lines and is a short walk to the Penn Museum.


Please be advised, parking is extremely limited during weekdays.

Garage 7

Located at the corner of South Streets and Convention Avenue, just east of the Penn Museum. Parking can be limited with garage filling early—usually by 7:30 am, some spots reopening after 10:30 am. Regular Daily Rate (no discounts offered): $21 Monday through Friday, Early morning to 5:00 pm. Evening and Weekend Rate (except for special event parking days): $11 after 5:00 pm. Special Event Parking: (including annual Penn Relays, other Penn Athletics Programming). Special event parking prices differ from everyday prices.

Other pay lots

These lots are in the vicinity and metered parking is available on some streets nearby. The following lots are available to the public after 5:00 PM during the week for a $7.00 flat rate:

  • Lot 19 – 34th & Chestnut ($8.00 flat rate on weekends)
  • Lot 23 – 38th & Sansom ($7.00 flat rate on weekends)
  • Lot 39 – 33rd & Ludlow ($8.00 flat rate on weekends)
