Description | Fluted; well-defined basal ears rounded and ground down. Blade edges convex; tip broadly rounded. Basally ground between ears and up both edges approx. 20mm. Fluting on one face by removal of single long broad channel flake 20x13mm. Apparent width of this flute complimented by removal of small basal flakes. Opposite face is triple-channel fluted ending in hinge fractures. 2 // longitudinal flakes were first detached to prepare face for finished fluting; third longitudinal fluke then struck off. Dimensions of final channel flake are 15x11mm; two preliminary flake scars are 12x4mm and 29x5mm. Rest of flaking is generally at right angles to blade edges. Tip and one edge exhibit battering-probably used as a knife at some time. Black phase of Macungie jasper from Lehigh County, Pa. |
