Description | Adze. Flat. Wide at one end and narrow at the other. Either partially ground or worked only along cutting edge which is mostly missing. Surface is fairly even but not polished. Dark stone. 2284 is unique in form among the pieces in the collection. It is flat and fairly smooth as if either it was left in its natural state and only worked on the cutting edge or perhaps shaped and then roughly polished. It apparently comes with a group of adzes from the same locale and is also probably of either Late Paleolithic or Jomon Period. |
