Description | Wooden oval bead with a hole through the center running lengthwise. The entire surface is carved with the figures of a tiger and dragon. This small wooden bead is mounted on a black netsuke string. Tiger and dragon, paired, represent the unity of all creation through its paradoxical opposites. It is a fine example of the miniaturized intricacy of 18th - 19th century Japanese adornment art. |
