Description | Birch bark cradle with cloth doll. Cradle deepest at base where bark folded. Wooden rim around opening which is egg-shaped, the pointed end at top. Side view is long narrow triangle. Rim of wood sewed on, and folded bark sewed together, both with sinew cord. Extra piece of bark lines inside center of back and folds over wooden rim at bottom edge. Piece of white cotton sewed over (with cotton thread) Top 3/4, with padding stuffed under section on inside of cradle. On front (or inside) another strip added which extends almost to base, but goes only over rim, not across back. Crude doll of felt-like material, with colored cotton blouse and black scarf, wrapped below arms in piece of white cloth. is placed on inside and held within by leather binding across central trunk which pass through sides of cradle and are held by knots on outside. |
