Description

Woman's shoulder scarf (selampe siwe). All Bimanese wear sarongs in the home and many wear them for everyday street wear as well. Sarongs with supplementary weft area often worn for dressy occasions with a matching shoulder scarf. This example probably pre-dyed synthetic thread. Green warp, red weft, golden yellow supplementary weft. Made in 1983 in Rasa Na'e, Bima Town. Red, with six golden yellow birds in center panel. At the ends, golden yellow borders (pyramids/tumpal) and 14.5 cm long red fringes.
