Description | Native-tanned hide (elk?) bag with parallel rows of porcupine quillwork (two thread, one-quill crossed sewing using sinew) in red with yellow end and a yellow center overlaid with stylized eye, ear and horn pattern (bull elk). Design identical on both sides of bag. Rawhide fringe, quill wrapped with four rectangular designs in yellow and red with tin cone dangles. Sides of bag edge-beaded with two rows of red beads. Composite bag: probably made from two medicine bundle wrappers sewn together with cotton thread with two separate pieces of rawhide fringe added. Condition: some missing areas of quillwork on bag proper and fringe; some missing beadwork and tin cones. |
