Description

Woman's dance paddle, mata ni mao. Wood, with black pigment, shell inlay. Carved at the top a pair of birds, at the bottom a pair of fish. These paddles are used by women in their dances. The basic shape is derived from a canoe paddle. Carved by Ratana of Gupuna Village. Used at departure ceremony for William Davenport. Gift of maker.
