Description | Two decorative wooden plaques, shaped as double ovoid, with relief carvings of Japanese courtier-poets on one surface of each. Heavy grain and dark color of the wood indicate that it is probably sugi, Japanese cedar. Beside the figures are lacquer and inlay furnishings; a small red table and white incense burner on 44a and a gold and stone inlaid vase and tray on 44b. |
