Description | Sommerville: sardonyx. Thyia, one of Dionysus' suite, with the mask of Medusa. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case M. Vermeule: Sardonyx. Cameo. (Unmounted). Bust of a female facing, head turned in full profile to left. Sommerville identifies her as "Thyis, one of Dionysos suite with the mask of Medusa. She has grape leaves in her hair, and wears a Cuirass with the head of Medusa in the center." 18th or 19th century. |
