Description

Wooden Katsina doll carved from one piece of wood. The face is divided into sections of brown, white and yellow. Animal paws are painted on each cheek. The eyes are black outlined in blue. Painted feathers are attached to the top and sides of the head. The ears are indicated by painted tufts of fur and a there is a painted fur collar around the neck. The figure wears jewelry and straps over a bare torso and a painted kilt around the waist. A rattle is held in one hand and a throwing stick in the other. The base has waves painted in blue. This figure is the Badger (Honan) Katsina. Made by Aldrick Mooya. (Colton, H. 1959 #89, Wright, B., 1973 #115)
