Description | Plain. Spherical body; neck collared; one loop handle shoulder to neck Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, tapered neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. There are no molded/modeled additions and no decoration. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. One side of the pot appears dark gray/green and deformed, likely from over-firing. The surface also appears gray and porous, likely from escaping gases. the vessel is deformed from pre-firing impact. It is roughly burnished on the exterior. Evidence of usewear includes residues/staining on the exterior and repair. There is a brown residue around the hole in the body, possibly from an ancient repair. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "983." |
