Description

Carved, square pigment box with lid; lid is ornamentally carved of geometric patterns; pronounced pattern of Nyinga (smoke) and Mayulu (the tortoise) on the lid; raised smooth knob protrudes from top center of lid; directly above this is a hole found on the rim; there is another hole directly below this on bottom of box-there are three strands of twisted plant fiber through the two hole, ends twisted and wrapped around one another-used to keep the lid and box together; sides of body of box are intricately carved, similiar to lid, yet rather faded; bottom of box is plain except for a square incised on bottom; exterior of box is dark brown in color; interior of box has a red hue from the pigment it once contained.
