Description

The painted Chief Kachina, Wupamo, wooden figure has a small round head, bulging eyes and long pointed bill. Wearing predominantly red body paint with accents of turquoise, yellow, white, black, white with small brown feathers attached to the sides of the head. The back of the head is adorned with a patch of grey fur. The figure has a collar of white fur. He wears a painted canvas dance kilt, red and black woven sash belt, an embroidered sash at right side, a red felt bandolier across his chest, and holds a bow in his proepr left (PL) hand and a green gourd dance rattle in the proper right (PR). He wears leather arm bands, yarn ties at PR wrist and knees, and a turtle shell rattle behind his right knee. There are painted ankle bands attached at his ankles.
