Description | Pottery. Flattened base, globular body, neck modified by face. painted animal faces on upper body. Red-white-black. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, effigy-anthropomorphic neck, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. The vessel has a molded face on the neck with protruding ears and nose and painted eyes, hair, and headdress. The body of the vessel has a red slip and painted wari style designs in white, black, crème, and red. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. There is an impression of a textile on the base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2705." |
