Description | Coarse red ware. Pointed and tapering, two handles red bottle with face, one handle missing Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. There is a modeled/molded face with applied nose, ear spools, mouth, and chin. The eyes are painted in white. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. There are regular striations on body from smoothing tool, possibly paddle?. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2629." |
