Imagine Africa Free Community Night Imagine Africa Free Community Night

Visitors were introduced to the Imagine Africa with the Penn Museum gallery project, exploring the vast continent of Africa through an evening of traditional and modern music, dance, and storytelling.


Voices of Africa Voices of Africa Concert and Workshop

Penn Museum hosted the internationally acclaimed ensemble Voices of Africa for an evening of traditional African and African-American songs, message music, gospel, and inspirational percussive rhythms.


Hip Hop Artists Imagine Africa Hip Hop Artists Imagine Africa with the Penn Museum

Penn Museum welcomed back six local Hip Hop groups and artists who had visited the Imagine Africa gallery project in January. On March 28, they performed original songs inspired by the Imagine Africa gallery project and the African collection at the Penn Museum.


Brazilian Groove Brazilian Groove

The galleries of the Penn Museum resonated with the music of live Brazilian performances, including a demonstration of Capoeira, a unique fusion of dance and martial arts. With music, dance, film and crafts, visitors explored the African diaspora’s deep influence on the cultures of Brazil.


African Dance! African Dance!

Penn Museum hosted an evening of African and African-influenced dance featuring local artists from around Philadelphia, curated by Terri Shockley, Executive Director of the Community Education Center in West Philadelphia.
