Description | Vermeule: Chalcedony Onyx. Cameo. (Gilt and enamel pendant setting) Jugate busts of a young man (perhaps Achilles or Hestor) facing right, wearing an elaborate helmet and carrying shield; behind helmeted draped bust of an older man wearing a cap which suggests that he is either Odysseus or more likely Priam. 19th, in imitation of a gem of the Alexandrius Hellenistic or Graeco-Roman periods. |
