Description | Globular body; deep bulging neck, wide mouth. Painted red-black on white ground on upper body and neck. Wide mouthed vessel with a globular body, bulging collar, rounded rim, no handles, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with a band around the shoulder with geometric designs ("bird designs"?) in white, black, red, purple. The band is outlined in black and orange. The rim is also painted with diagonal stripes and dots in white, black, and red. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. There are lines at the interior of the vessel where the parts of the body were joined. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1831." |
