Description | Cylindrical basket with rattle lid (30-11-15B). Made of split roots of the spruce tree, fine weave, natural color. Decorated with a band of straw false embroidery in a "blanket border" pattern in black. Negative space within the design is filled with "war club" patterns in orange and brown. The central design band is bordered at the top and bottom by a line of "strawberry basket," or checked, pattern in brown and black. Natural Indian dyes. Technical notes: twined, close twined, two-strand, in-between weave (with plain), three-strand, wrapped weft ("false embroidery"). Body: 13 warps, 20 wefts per square inch. Bottom in between. |
