Description

(Phylactery) Leather cases, square, each with strap, containing (a, for the head) four sections from the Torah, and (b, for the left hand) four sections on one strip; written in Hebrew on parchment strips: Deut. 6:4-9; 11:13-21; Ek. 13:1-10; 13:11-16. Used at certain Morning Services (but not by Reform Jews). Regarded as protection against sin (called Tefillin in Hebrew)
