Description

Stone paint grinder with a figure carved onto the handle called the "Imp that guided the skillful hand of an artist" (LSDA). The figure appears to be crouching with an oval head extended horizontally. The face has roughly defined eyes, mouth, and a nose and appears to have traces of pigment. The grinding surface is circular with some damage along the edge below the rear of the figure.
