Description

molded and tooled. Broad cylindrical neck, body flares out at an angle. Originally had a head attachment over each handle, grooved rim with relief studs, a medallion with a high relief head on each side of neck and sphinxes on the shoulder. Fabric: dark gray core, fine-grained with flecks of mica (?). Condition: Handles missing. Almost half the rim and neck plus section of shoulder are preserved. Scars below head attachment where one of the two handles was attached. Technique: Thrown in a jigger on the wheel. Fingermarks are visible on interior. Highly burnished. Place of manufacture: Orvieto or Chiusi
