Description

The iron blade is quadrangular in section at the base, the four faces being of about the same width and slightly concave. The blade flattens out gradually towards the point, two of the edges continuing as a well-marked rib down to the point. It is a variety of the blades with constriction near the base (29-58-78 to 81) . The tang passes through a rectangular iron plate with scalloped edges to its insertion in the thick sane shaft, which has numerous, well-marked nodes or joints. The reinforcing iron tube is chased with foliate designs. Behind it the shaft is surrounded by a ring of closely netted string, the knots forming zigzag ridges. The wooden sheath for the blade is in two parts joined only by string bindings; it imitates the shape of the blade, and is surmounted by a carved finial.
