Description | Flat base, cylindrical neck: two vertical loop handles on body. With face on neck and painted animal faces. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, flaring neck, flat rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled and incised face on the neck including ears, nose, mouth, and incised eyes. The body is painted with a double sided animal head design and bands of color in orange, red, white, and black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1523." |
