Pipe Holder

An ensemble of smoking paraphenalia. An elaborately carved wooden box having an overall lozenge shape divided into four equal sections- a base, a narrower body, a wide shoulder and a equally wide cover. The container is a rectangular shaft going through the center of each section. The cover, shoulder and base are decorated with a cross-hatched diamond and "x" design. The lid, which has an incised butterfly design on top, slides up and down two braided horsehair lines attached through to the base. Above the cover, the lines slide through an A-shaped piece of carved bone and are fixed to one end of a flat wooden bar elaborately carved with cross hatching and scroll-like decorations.
