Description | Short skirt of black, twisted plant fiber, doubled over and caught between two criss-crossing strands at top. Similar twisted black fiber and construction technique in skirts 1995.X.16490 and 1994.X.11433, which has a tag reading "New Caledonia." An object of this sort appears in the center of a Freres Dufy photo reproduced on p. 106 of Decouverte photographique de la Nouvelle-Caledonie 1848-1900 (Serge Kakou, 1998) Exhibited at l'Exposition universelle de Paris 1900. |
