Description | Twenty-four small black snail shells (in 6 groups of 3 and one group of 6) alternating with small white clam shells and 14 small white cowries (in pairs), strung on nylon line. Party favor given to judges and other dignitaries at a December 26th Aruuan Kirisimas (Second Christmas) hymn singing contest in the village of Chuyukiano on the island of Tol, circa 1966. As the only American living on the island at the time the collector was seated at the head table and received the necklaces. |
