Description | Made of plaited rattan. Egg-shaped sloping towards back. Ears, like small funnels, sit quite far back; head piece hides top when viewed from front but ears show. Face outlined by a wrapped strip; holes above and below eyes, for eyes, and nostrils. Raised nose forming a ridge is looped almost to base of mask and back on itself. Painted all over in pink, yellow, white and black; simple geometric designs on head piece and around mask outside face, which is painted to accent the features. Use in men's initiation ceremonies. |
