Description | The object is identified as a Hopi Cloud Shalako Figure. The Kachina is carved painted wood with a helmet of white with black and red features including a red head band with silver concho style adornments at forehead, a single central horn, and two green frogs painted on the back. The figure wears garments of two-layers a cloak/wrap/tunic, the base under-layer is soft dark brown fabric, and the top layer is white leather. Both legs have red yarn tied around the tops of the moccasins as does the proper right (PR) wrist (black yarn). The PL wrist has a fabric cuff or kehto. The figure is holding a bundle of yucca wands or “sticks” in each hand. The Paint colors: white, black, red, brown, green, blue. |
