Description

A long piece of wood with intricately carved design and a hole at the one end. It is used as part of a loom which has a partially woven woman's skirt made of indigo ikat cloth. The bamboo portion would be suspended from a larger frame and the strings in the heddles attached to it so the loom is also suspended from the frame. The wooden pole with the hole fits into two wooden pieces (292AA,BB) that protrude out from the side beams on the bottom. The loom is part of a larger set of parts. The vertical posts are 82-7-292H,I,J,K. The longer horizontal beams 82-7-292L,M are on the top while 82-7-292N,O are on the bottom. The shorter end beams are 292C,E on top, 292E,F on the bottom, and 292D in the middle which is covered with a cloth to help the textile strands extend past the edge and wrap over the top of the loom beams where it's tied to the beam over the weaver's head (292C). There are a number of shims (292P-Z) that fit into the joints between the vertical and horizontal beams. The spools for the textile are 82-7-203, while the shuttle is 82-7-239. There is a basket that holds the spools (82-7-94). The seat (82-7-294E) which is for the loom 82-7-265 can also be used with this loom.
