Description | Memorial. Wooden figure of a standing man holding before him a shield of curvng openwork scrolls with a pointed top. Unusual for this type of carving, the face is realisitically represented. An ancestor figure, in which the spirit of the recently deceased resides. Formerly kept in the family house and consulted as to the advisability of important undertakings, such as long voyages or warfare. |
