Description | Round, wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted green with a horizontal band of black with white squares from ear to ear. The ears themselves have stepped edges. The protruding, tube mouth is painted red and blue. White feathers are attached to the top of the head. The body is painted red and yellow and a white painted kilt is worn around the waist. This figure is likely the Crazy Rattle (Tuskiapaya) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #258, Wright, B., 1973 #209) |
