Description | CBS Register: alabaster statuette, covered with plaster of paris, a standing "Eros" (?) leaning with his left arm on a pole adorned with a wreath Romano: "Standing nude, chubby wingless Eros with right arm bent across front of body and his left arm bent with his hand supporting his head on the side of his face; his left elbow is resting on the top of some vertical support. He stands with his right leg straight and his bent left leg crossed over in front with his foot turned out. To his left side is an vertical object on a slight diagonal, a torch or drapery over an upright. His head is turned slightly to his right. The hair is summarily treated, with gouges for locks on top and sides of head flattened. On the lower right and left are projections. Round fact with large eye sockets with slit for separation of lids and a small mouth. Small drill hole in bottom of left leg used for modern mounting. Back is roughly worked and flattened." |
