April 25 marks the start of the Penn Relays, America’s largest track-and-field competition. This year, we’re celebrating the University of Pennsylvania tradition by taking a closer look at Indigenous American sports. Using collection artifacts, students will learn the rules and significance of games played by Indigenous peoples from North, Central, and South America and how many of those games are still played today. Students will then use these sports as inspiration to design their own team logos.
Recommended materials: Blank sheet of paper, writing utensil, and coloring materials.
